Marine Mammal Related Postdoctoral Position
Please see the following for a three-year postdoctoral fellowship opportunity at Baylor University. If you are interested comparative/integrative research in baleen whales (e.g., responses to climate changes, modeling, migration, longitudinal datasets) please contact Stephen Trumble Stephen_Trumble at baylor.edu<mailto:Stephen_Trumble at baylor.edu> or Sascha Usenko Sascha_Usenko at baylor.edu<mailto:Sascha_Usenko at baylor.edu> on or before 31 March 2020. We are seeking an outstanding, self-motivated scientist who will join an energetic, collaborative and goal-oriented team researching lifetime chemical profiles in baleen whales. The Trumble/Usenko Labs at Baylor University (Chronology Of Ocean Life) have developed and are supported to develop analytical techniques and address questions using reconstructed lifetime chemical profiles (i.e. hormones, stable isotopes, contaminants, etc) of baleen whales.
The postdoctoral scientist will work independently under the mentorship of Drs. Trumble and Usenko, and will lead in the experimentation, analysis, presentation and publication of research. They will be encouraged to apply for independent funding and present research at national and international meetings. Those with backgrounds in endocrinology, bulk and/or compound specific stable isotope analysis or statistical computing languages are encouraged to apply.
Candidates should have completed their PhD within the last two years in endocrinology, ecology, environmental science or a related discipline (PhD by August 2020 are eligible). Fellows are expected to demonstrate a commitment to inclusive scholarship and have a demonstrated record of research productivity and publication. We encourage applicants to reach out to prospective mentor(s) to discuss potential interests. Review of applications will begin by March 31 and continue until the position has been filled with a starting date of June 2020. Applications should be submitted to: stephen_trumble at baylor.edu<mailto:stephen_trumble at baylor.edu> and/or sascha_usenko at baylor.edu<mailto:sascha_usenko at baylor.edu> as one combined pdf file containing a 1) 1-page cover letter describing research experience including how interests/background would contribute to the COOL research effort, 2) a CV including names and contact information for three references.
