The DWC Marine Mammals Program consists of 24 professional staff and works proactively with state, federal, Alaska Native Organizations, and also with NGOs and private partners to conserve Alaska's marine mammal species. A primary responsibility includes securing and administering grants and budgets, which are often complex and may require matching funds. The incumbent will directly supervise 5 professional staff located in Juneau, Anchorage, and Fairbanks.
The Marine Mammals Program is instrumental in implementing Alaska's State Wildlife Action Plan: http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=species.wapabout. The incumbent must work effectively with other agencies, traditional DWC region-based wildlife management programs, NGO's, and universities to promote the Marine Mammals Program.
