All chapters have been updated and expanded, with emphasis on topics

updated overview of marine mammal stranding frequency and distribution
in North America, with coverage extended to Canada and Mexico. There are
almost 600 new references-and a few new carcass disposal stories! Added

human-related injuries.
In the Spring 2006 Society of Marine Mammalogy Newsletter, Book Review
Editor Dr. Ian Stirling concluded: "This outstanding book is essential
for anyone involved with any of the stranding networks around the world
and any labs or teaching institutions that have students, research
