Dear all,

Anne Zahlan reports that Jack (Julius Rowan) Raper passed away in 
January. There will be an online memorial service in March. I'm sure 
Durrell Society members will remember his for his books, /Narcissus from 
Rubble/ and /Lawrence Durrell: Comprehending the Whole/, but he was also 
the author of three novels, among other books and many articles.

I only met Jack a few times at ILDS conferences, first on Corfu in 2000. 
He was always lively and a joy to talk with.

I had news from Chapel Hill that Julius Raper died in January. As you 
will notice, Durrell is mentioned in the (brief) atached obituary. Some 
of you have essays in his edited book on Durrell, /Comprehending the 
Whole,/ published in 1995 and including contributions from many we 
know—and have known--well.
