Subject: [ilds] Michael Haag

Friends,

I am very sad to report that Michael Haag died last Monday, January 6th.

The next issue of the /Herald/ will be commemorative to recognize his 
extraordinary contributions, and the next issue of /Deus Loci/ will be 
dedicated to Michael, who has an article in it. Peter Baldwin will 
attend Michael's funeral on behalf of the ILDS.

Michael was a wonderful friend, probably the finest host I have ever 
known, and able to draw magic from the air with wit, care, and kindness. 
I'm remembering with great fondness a long, long trek around London with 
him and Charles Sligh as my guides, and visits to his home that are 
among my fondest memories. Candles, hushed lamps, glowing heraldic 
faces, half-emptied glasses, & conversations of the perfect vintage... 
It's like a dog-eared page I go back to over & over. I will miss him.

Very sad news this morning, but such a well spent life.  I spoke to Michael
once about Eve Cohen about a decade ago and found him to be an absolute
gentleman, extremely generous with his care and time.  If anyone is in
contact with his family, please send condolences.  His work remains for all
time.
