[ilds] Publishers for a novel

Dear Durrellians

I am making a rather unusual enquiry.

Having worked on a novel for some years and having also made some
modifications in its overall structure along the way I now feel I should
try for its publication.

It is my first novel, and completed rather late in life!

I have been writing some poetry over the years and some of my poems have
been published in some journals in India.

I am writing for suggestions about publishers outside India because I
believe that my novel, set in more than one location in India, might be of
interest to readers outside the country.

I am writing to the ILDS List in the hope that its members might know of
specific publishers in different countries, including the USA, UK and
Australia, who might be interested in this kind of an offering. These
publishers may be smaller than the well known names, or new publishers, and
might in either case be looking for material from different sources.

I see my novel, which draws from autobiographical experiences on India,
falling within the* genre *of what is referred to as Literary Fiction in
the publishing world where the term is used as a specific category of
fiction.

I know a literary agent plays a major role in the publication of a novel,
and here too I would ask for suggestions from members of the ILDS List.
