Sumantra, I would argue that Taneja's article follows in the Saidian tradition of Orientaliaism. I would also argue that India was an abiding and deeply personal concern for Durrell, hence its frequent appearance throughout his oeuvre. In a fashion typical of the Saidian approach, Taneja wants to trivialize Durrell's use of the trope. That, I believe, is a big mistake.
