Yes, and Michael Diboll also makes a strong case for Durrell’s indebtedness to modern Egypt in his Lawrence Durrell’s Alexandria Quartet in Its Egyptian Contexts (2004). Re Durrell and ancient Egypt, I have an article forthcoming in Mosaic. Lawrence Durrell is always highly complex.
