Dear Sir, I recently wrote Ian MacNiven who subsequently wrote me that he
was forwarding my letter to you. The subject of my correspondence was that I
very much desire to learn where in LD's writings or interviews or
correspondence there is a section where he berates women in Paris who don't
shave underarms or use deodorants and , therefore, smell bad. I had this
remark in my rather complete LD collection once but it was lost in a fire
that destroyed my townhouse. Therefore, I am anxious, for personal reasons,
to locate it once again. I hope you can help. Thank you very much. I have
read all of Durrell since that first NYT review of "Justine". Sincerely, Len
