It's worth noting that Durrell still sells very, especially in 
comparison to his contemporaries and the High Modernists.  The 
significant limitation seems to be in the literary establishment, and 
much of that I suspect comes down to fashion...

Having worked in and haunted several bookshops, Durrell sold well in all 
of them.
