The significant limitation seems to be in the literary establishment, and much of that I suspect comes down to fashion... Having worked in and haunted several bookshops, Durrell sold well in all of them. The bookseller at MacLeod's mentioned that the store also had some of Durrell's letters in storage. Might be worth looking into.
