Anne,
with regard to radio Journalism, yes, the plan is more programs. AS to Vancouver, this needs thought, time, planning and dollars. Well, the process of putting the show together was surprising mundane; much of the work done in Kelly's Bar in Newtown with a fine tooth comb and a schooner of ale.
Today I read that the great Australian writer Patrick White (also 1912 - 1990) read The Alexandria Quartet in the early 60s and was very impressed by it, although he found Pasternak more evocative. As I may have mentioned before, White and Durrell had much in common, not only a baroque style, but also 'colonial' experiences in England. White also said that he never felt he belonged anywhere and his novels were a quest to make sense of place..

David R. and I were so glad to have the chance to listen to it (we thank Ken Gammage), and we were more than happy to let others know about the broadcast through the ILDS Herald. We hope that you will come to Vancouver and engage Durrellians there on your process and the wonderful results.

The program was my first foray into radio journalism and I hope it will not be the last. Thanks also to Charles Sligh for putting me in touch with Ian MacNiven, Michael Haag and Joanna Hodgkin, who were all wonderful interviewees and wrote back favourably to me about the program. Ian has invited me to Athens NY for some local beer and I am sure that one day I will find Michael's literary bunker somewhere in London. I had been trying for some time to get a program out about Larry and with luck a draft manuscript landed on Lyn's desk and we met and she said "do it!" And so it goes..
