I am sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I will let others estimate and appraise the book. My sense is that you would do best to sell the book to an individual collector via eBay or some other venue. All best wishes ? and my thanks to you for sharing the image of the inscription. Ian MacNiven is my friend. Knowing that Ian was a friend of your friend is one of those little felicities that make this weary world seem a bit brighter today. I wish to sell this and was wondering if someone might advise me on the best venue. Ebay, or Alibris, or other? Feedback welcome and appreciated. with best regards, Beverly Pearce [cid:d93b0b31-4863-466e-8fa3-8fe6d52d4f19 at mail.tennessee.edu] _______________________________________________ ILDS mailing list ILDS at lists.uvic.ca https://lists.uvic.ca/mailman/listinfo/ilds -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Like yours, a first edition, only not autographed, and in great condition, just a bit yellowed. I have seen some for sale that are quite expensive, but mine was a bargain: with shipping, the total was only $7.00. So quite the range. I'll forward this on to the Durrell Society's listserv, but you might do best with eBay. I'm sure the travels brought much pleasure! All best, James -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Bitter Lemons first edition Date: Mon, 3 Jun 2013 12:59:38 +0100 From: Anthony Byrne To: Hi I have long been a devotee of the "travel" writings of Lawrence Durrell and have in my possession what appears to be a first edition of "Bitter Lemons". The item in question is hardback with original yellow dustjacket. inside it says:"This edition issued on first publication by The Book Society Ltd in association with Faber and Faber Ltd July 1957." I am not an expert but assume this is the first edition. It is in good condition considering its age. The text is good. Dust Jacket a little tatty with a number of sellotaped tears, but mostly intact. A couple of brown spots almost unnoticeable on the outer side of a few pages. I just wondered if anyone in the Society would be interested in it ? Incidentally it has been photographed outside the House in question in Bellapais-- photograph attached. And it has sat on a table in the Tree of Idleness taverna. I am a private individual and I live near Bristol Best wishes Tony Byrne -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
