Hi Bill,
I started to hunt around for it when you sent the first email but
realized I was confusing him with Graham Howe (who *does* appear in some
of the same journals as LD and was one of LD's interests, though more
Henry Miller's). Durrell and Mott didn't publish in the same places, so
far as I know -- mea culpa. As for Howe, Durrell dropped him fairly
quickly, though Miller kept an interest for a while. Both HM and LD
published comments on Howe.
Durrell seems to have first found Mott in 1950 and mentions him to
Miller in a letter from Zagreb (noting Mott's /The Grand Design/ which
MacNiven identifies as /The Universal Design of Birth/ from 1948). He
recommends the Universal Oedipal Complex book in the same letter.
That said, Mott did publish a number of articles in psychoanalytic and
psychiatric journals in the 1940s, both American and British. Those
would probably be listed in the regular bibliographies, but I doubt
they'd be easily accessed.
Mott also appears to be closely tied to Christian Science in the defunct
Church of Integration.
Apart from that, there's little in the Durrellian critical literature on
Mott apart from what you've noted already, that is, apart from a crazy
article from 1967 on Durrell and Lane's /Egypt/... ;) Grime has a
brief footnote as well, noting that 1967 piece, in "How Real is the
City?" (68 n29).
Best,
Jamie
