Hello all,

I think most Durrellians are planning a week of catch up after the very 
fine conference in New Orleans -- I know I'll be writing more in a day 
or so once the immediately pressing pile of materials is cleared away...

This message was in my inbox, and I thought it might be a compelling 
issue for many people on the ILDS listserv.  Comparative Literature 
programs across North America have been hit hard over the past decade, 
and the University of Toronto is one of the few remaining in Canada now. 
  If you want to give your support, I'd invite you to do so.

Angus Carroll's "The Good, the Bad, and the Obscene" (26-31), in Fine Books, is worth  a gander -- if you haven't gandered already. The essay is a brief history of the Olympia Press, and, no, Durrell is not featured, though he is there (27). 

Also, if you are not conversant with the work of Patrick Kearney, you may wish to have a look. I have not yet looked. Though, again, I will.
