Hello,
If you look up "A chronology...." published by the 
Durrell School Corfu, LD would have been in 
Sommières in May 1968. If he didn't look at Tv or 
read the papers, he could well have not known what 
was going on. I was in Paris, and appart from the 
left bank around Saint Michel, Paris was 
absolutely normal. The metro was working. The 
shops open. Hard to get petrol though (bad for 
cars and airlines). I remember going to see films 
and to cafés. I met my wife in Paris in may 1968! 
Perhaps the media made much more of it than really 
was, as usual. That lead to France loosing De Gaulle!
