I think that this verse comes from a known source for Durrell--/Love in 
the Western World/ (1956) by Denis de Rougemont--like Durrell, one of 
the great mythographers and mythologists of Love.

Denis de Rougement gives the verse special emphasis in his footnote, 
translating it as follows: "Love by force dominates you.  How long will 
your folly last?  Too long you have been leading this life" (40-41, n2 
in the Princeton UP edition).
