David--yes, Sydney is a long way off, but Durrell is worth it! I, for one, am pushing for Kerala in 2012, Durrell's centennial, but yes, that will be a far piece for (almost) all of us! In any case, I do hope you'll consider attending an On Miracle Ground, whether in New Orleans, Corfu, or India...we're a darn fun bunch of people, who enjoy each other's company--and a sip or two of plonk...till then--laissez les bon temps roullez!

Pamela, I refer to your two recent emails - a mighty bayonet charge, worthy of American troops in World War One (1918) Well done.
 
I can imagine Durrell enjoying Sydney too but a conference here is a long way for you folks. I've heard and read great things about New Orleans: the colonial atmoshere, the food etc but reckon that if I am going to travel four milliom miles to a Durrell conference I'll probably wait till one in Durrell Med. country (a selfish thing, I know but there it is). Hope it goes well and look forward to meeting you guys some day before I get too old and silly.
