thank you for your translation from Guy de Maupassant. Only a Frenchman could have a name like that. To my mind that passage just about sums it up. The writer as theif, cobbler, storeman, magician; all those and more. Reality diguised as fiction tranlated into another reality, the writers, that we accept and go along with. Durrell does this very well and maintains another worldliness that is deeply intoxicating.
