A provocative observation, Ed.
My response would be: How did Lawrence Durrell define "great writers"? How many women writers are mentioned in his _Key_ &c.?
Of course he associated with any number of significant writers--Freya Stark, Anais, &c. But I do not know if any of those women rate highly on his list of great writers. . . .
I am looking forward to more posts!
