And we must note that it was LD's birthday on February 27th. Had he lived longer he would have been  97.

I bought some French wine and drank several glasses. This morning I spoke to my local motor mechanic who is from Cyprus. He admired my knowledge of the island and its history (Bitter Lemons inspired) but had never heard of LD. When I mentioned Enossis, he laughed and said

"Ha, the British still control the island!"

I mentioned the Turks and he shrugged " what can we do?"

Happy Durrell Birthday thing.
