Incidentally, the story of the guitar and Elizabethan love songs appears 
in his first novel, /Pied Piper of Lovers/, as well.  Even into the 
1960s, photos from interviews show him with the guitar, so I think it's 
safe to say this self-mocking pose is one he cultivated...
