By Diane Simon

SCULPTURES of the brothers Gerald and Lawrence Durrell have been
unveiled in Corfu in gardens on the esplanade named after them. The
ceremony took place at the start of a seminar at the Durrell School of
Corfu based on the book ‘Amateur Naturalist’, written by Gerald Durrell
and his wife Lee.

The bronze sculptures, created by Corfu-born Eva Caridi, were unveiled
by the Mayor of Corfu in the presence of Dr Durrell and Professor David
Bellamy, who are patrons of the school, and Durrell Wildlife
Conservation Trust director Jeremy Mallinson.

Also present were two students from Jersey, Sam Hubbard (14) from
Victoria College and Richard van Neste (18), who won the essay
competition organised by the trust which was sponsored by Lombard Odier
Darier Hentsch (Jersey) Ltd.
