Corfu honours the Durrell brothers

SCULPTURES of the brothers Gerald and Lawrence Durrell have been 
unveiled in Corfu in gardens on the esplanade named after them.The 
ceremony took place at the start of a seminar at the Durrell School of 
Corfu based on the book ‘Amateur Naturalist’, written by Gerald Durrell 
and his wife Lee.

The bronze sculptures, created by Corfu-born Eva Caridi, were unveiled 
by the Mayor of Corfu in the presence of Dr Durrell and Professor David 
Bellamy, who are patrons of the school, and Durrell Wildlife 
Conservation Trust director Jeremy Mallinson.

Also present were two students from Jersey, Sam Hubbard (14) from 
Victoria College and Richard van Neste (18), who won the essay 
competition organised by the trust which was sponsored by Lombard Odier 
Darier Hentsch (Jersey) Ltd.
