I read for the x time the Alexandria quartet and I wonder if there is
sometimes organised travel in Alexandria on the steps of Durell?

I recommend you buy a copy of Michael Haag's Alexandria:  City of Memory (2004), which, in addition to its important text, provides maps and identifies key locations in Durrell's Alexandria.  Then go stay in the Cecil Hotel.  Many of Durrell's haunts are within walking distance of the Cecil.  Don't be surprised to find those places different from the Quartet's evocations.  The city has changed.

dear bruce....i'm soon to be off to the city of memory and would like a three day immersal in the fluilds, bars and hotels which distantly carry uncle larry's territorial marks, linked by well worn sauntering footpaths ....i wonder if the entrance to the heraldic universe may be neatly positioned in some discreet corner table in the cecil or perhaps not too far off?....i will have to ask michael to help out on this inebriate itinerary....best wishes drd

If you like good wine, you won't find it in Egypt.  Egyptian wine is terrible.  Maybe that's why LD was so disgruntled in the Land of the Pharaohs.
