[ilds] Cavafy - Whose Translation?

Hi Bruce,

I've read Hirst & Silk's _Alexandria: Real & Imagined_, and it is
pricey. I think it's something best accessed through a library, though
it does have interesting materials. The Durrell-related chapters are:

Fahmy, Khaled. "For Cavafy, With Love and Squalor: Some Critical Notes
on the History and Historiography of Modern Alexandria." pp. 263-280.

Kararah, Azza. "Egyptian Literary Images of Alexandria." pp. 307-321.

Roessel, David. "A Passage Through Alexandria: The City in the Writing
of Durrell and Forster." pp. 323-335.

Mabro, Robert. "Alexandria 1860-1960: The Cosmopolitan Identity." pp.
247-262

To my mind, they do not always endorse the Philhellenic perspective, but
they challenges they present are provocative and significant.

Best,
James
