Subject: Gaussargues?

Has any one of the highly literate scholars who subscribe to this site
identified "Gaussargues" (Across Secret Provence, 1959")? Or is it perhaps a
mythic town, where like many others, "the cafés (are) under the planes".
That could be a description of Sommières, or a hundred other places........
A propos of the earlier postings I believe the planes are trees, ransacked
by the wind - it is a clearing away process, with which we are vernally
familiar on Pudding Island.
